About the painting:
Name: “Waiting for Relief”
Feb 2020
90 x 160 cm
Mixed médias/ Linen canvas
Waiting for Relief is a powerful expression of longing, with bold, sweeping black strokes
stretching across a muted green background. The deep, expansive lines cut through the green,
embodying the weight of anticipation, while the softer background suggests a calm yet unsettled
space. The contrast between the dark strokes and gentle green hints at the struggle within
stillness, as if relief is just beyond reach, yet deeply felt.
About the artist:
Liya Shay, began her artistic journey at the tender age of four, exploring the colorful world of painting. While initially trained in classical techniques, she eventually found her true voice in the captivating realm of abstract art.
Amidst the trials of the Covid era, Liya sought solace and expression through her first abstract collection, “Dyed 2020,” a heartfelt response to the heaviness of the times. Transitioning from the hustle of Los Angeles to the tranquility of Monaco, she discovered a haven in her studio, where her creativity flourished.
While her art is influenced by the world around her, Liya finds her true inspiration in her innermost thoughts and feelings. The solitude of Covid confinement deepened her connection to her emotions, enriching her art with authenticity and soul.
Liya’s works in 2023 and 2024 captivate with their depth and resonance. Meanwhile, her past collections from 2020 and 2021, though temporarily lost to the chaos of past relationships, await their rediscovery in a journey of reflection and renewal.
Currently based in Monte-Carlo, Liya Shay welcomes visitors into her studio, where creativity knows no bounds and art is a celebration of life’s beauty and complexity.
